The Webflow SEO checklist we use.
The complete audit playbook our editors and listed agencies run on every Webflow project — 50 specific checks across seven categories.
Webflow gives you the foundation for strong SEO — clean HTML, fast static rendering, and tight control over markup. The checklist below is what separates "Webflow site that ranks" from "Webflow site that should rank but doesn't."
Project setup
- Custom domain configured with www-or-not redirect set in Webflow hosting
- SSL enabled and forced HTTPS in hosting settings
- Sitemap auto-generation enabled (Project Settings → SEO)
- robots.txt configured to allow crawling of production but block staging
- Search Console verified and sitemap submitted
- Bing Webmaster Tools verified
- Google Analytics 4 or Plausible installed via head code
Page-level metadata
- Unique <title> tag on every page, 50–60 characters, keyword-first
- Unique meta description on every page, 140–160 characters, action-oriented
- Canonical URL set on every page (Webflow handles this automatically; verify)
- Open Graph title, description, and 1200×630 image on every page
- Twitter Card meta on every page
- No "noindex" left over from staging on any production page
URL & site architecture
- URL structure is shallow and keyword-relevant (no /page-1/page-2/page-3/)
- Trailing slash convention is consistent site-wide
- CMS collection URLs use the slug field, not the auto-generated one
- Pagination handled with proper rel="next"/"prev" or canonical strategy
- Internal linking distributes authority to important pages (audit with crawler)
- Footer and navigation include links to all top-tier pages
Schema markup
- Organization or LocalBusiness schema on the homepage
- BreadcrumbList schema on every interior page
- Article schema on blog posts
- FAQPage schema on FAQ sections
- Product schema on commerce product pages
- All schema validated with Google Schema Markup Validator
Content
- One <h1> per page that includes the primary keyword
- Heading hierarchy is sequential (no skipping H2 → H4)
- Image alt text is descriptive (not keyword-stuffed)
- Important pages have at least 600 words of substantive content
- Internal links use descriptive anchor text, not "click here"
- Outbound links to authoritative sources where relevant
Images & media
- Images use modern formats (WebP) wherever possible
- Below-the-fold images use loading="lazy"
- Above-the-fold images use loading="eager" and fetchpriority="high"
- Explicit width and height set to prevent layout shift
- Descriptive filenames (no IMG_4532.png)
- Large images (>500KB) are resized or compressed
Performance & Core Web Vitals
- LCP under 2.5s on the homepage (PageSpeed Insights mobile)
- CLS under 0.1 across all major templates
- INP under 200ms across major templates
- Custom code in <head> is minimized; non-critical scripts loaded async or deferred
- Third-party scripts (chat, analytics) audited for performance cost
- Webflow CDN and image CDN both enabled
